GIVE THEM BACK THEIR SPEAR AND JUG

We pick back up at with David finding King Saul asleep (1 Samuel 26:5), but not just Saul and General Abner but the army that has circled them for protection is sleep too!! David and his troops are watching this easy kill at this point King Saul is what we call an easy mark. But David does NOT kill him!!!! Due to the fact he fears God and respects him as the Lord’s CHOSEN King (1 Samuel 26:9).
Instead David takes King Saul's spear and jug of water (1 Samuel 26:11) and then goes to the top of the mountain looks down on the sleeping enemy and shouts "WAKE UP ABNER" then David taunts him saying "Well, Abner you're a great fellow, aren't you" (1 Samuel 26: 14) "why haven't you guarded your master the king when someone came to kill him? This isn't good at all!" David goes on to ask Abner where is the King’s Spear and jug of water that was beside his head and to look and see if it is still there.

I mean David is a cold piece, he could have killed King Saul I mean crush his enemy, he was up close and personal and in his face and still did not harm him. David keeps proving to King Saul that he is a mark with all these weak people around him supposedly looking out for him and they sleep TOO; and my goodness with all that mouth King Saul has and all those threats and attempts on David’s life he should never sleep.

There is a two-fold message here: One be careful how you treat people and your intentions to destroy them; and second there is no need to respond your enemies and the haters that come at you, keep pressing in and on, be like David give them back their spear and jug of water, pulling their coats about behavior as well.

David said now that I have spared YOUR life [King Saul] “now, may the Lord save my life” ….. ”May he rescue me from all MY troubles” (1 Samuel 26: 24). Please read the full verse on your own.

Apply this to life, no need to repay evil for evil, hate for hate, gossip for gossip, let the Saul in your life do them. It’s so easy to overreact and trip out; its spiritual maturity and wisdom to drive home the point of could have, should have, but didn't; keeping the iron first in the silk glove and knowing no matter what God is a sustains even when everyone and everything around you is wrong and off. "No weapon formed against you shall prosper" (Isaiah 54:17)….BUT David had to do right though, I did not say he was perfect……I said RIGHT.

We are living in ugly times, the lasts days, I cannot give you happy go lucky stories all the time; need real instances and history to teach us how to live IN (not apart) this world and how God can keep you in spite of what and who is after your life, your dreams, your happiness, your joy.
